Bean Book is a private coffee journal. Your beans, tastings, recipes, and photos live on your device. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking. The AI features run entirely on your device — your shots and photos never leave your phone. Purchases are processed by Apple; we never see your payment details.
This Privacy Policy describes how Bean Book (previously published as MyBeans, the "App"), developed by Stefan Hailey ("we," "us," or "our"), handles your information. Bean Book is designed around a simple principle: your coffee journal is yours, and it stays on your device.
Everything you add to Bean Book is stored locally in the App's private database on your device:
We have no server. We cannot see, access, or recover any of this data.
Photos you add to Bean Book remain on your device and are used only to display within your journal and, if you choose, for on-device analysis (bag scanning and puck diagnosis). Only add photos you own or have permission to use.
Bean Book's intelligent features — the AI Dial-In Assistant, Bag Scan, Puck Diagnosis, and flavor analysis — run on your device using Apple's on-device machine learning frameworks (including Apple Intelligence on supported devices).
Bean Book Pro subscriptions and the lifetime unlock are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles all payment information; we never receive your payment details. Your entitlement status (whether Pro is active) is read from Apple's purchase records on your device.
The App stores a small set of counters (for example, how many free AI previews you've used) in your personal iCloud key-value storage so they stay consistent across your devices and reinstalls. This data lives in your iCloud account under Apple's privacy practices — we cannot access it. Your journal itself is not uploaded by us; it may be included in your own device backups if you have those enabled.
If you use the in-app browser to import beans from a roaster's website, the App fetches that public webpage directly from your device. Your browsing inside that view is subject to the roaster's own website terms and privacy practices.
The optional roaster search feature sends only your search query (for example, a roaster name) to Google's Custom Search API to find roaster websites. No personal information or journal data is included. Google's handling of search queries is described in Google's privacy policy.
If you use Siri, Shortcuts, Spotlight search, or home-screen widgets with Bean Book, the small amounts of data needed for those features (such as your active bean's name) are processed by Apple's on-device frameworks under Apple's privacy practices.
Your journal is protected by your device's built-in security — device encryption, passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID. Because your data never leaves your device, there is no server-side data to breach.
Bean Book does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13. The App has a 4+ age rating and collects no personal data.
Your data is retained on your device until you delete it. We have no copies. If you delete the App, your journal is deleted with it (export first if you want to keep it).
Because all processing happens on your device and no personal data is collected or transferred by us, the App can be used consistently with data-protection frameworks such as GDPR and CCPA. You remain the sole controller of your journal.
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, note the change in the App's release notes. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.
