01Introduction
Welcome to Bean Book! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Bean Book mobile application (previously published as MyBeans, the "App") developed by Stefan Hailey ("we," "our," or "us"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
02Description of Service
Bean Book is a coffee journal that lets you:
Track and organize your coffee bean collection, tastings, scores, and brewing recipes
Scan coffee bag labels with your camera to fill in bean details automatically
Analyze flavors with an SCA-style flavor wheel and build a personal palate profile
Discover and import beans from coffee roasters through integrated search and browsing
Use on-device AI features — the AI Dial-In Assistant, Bag Scan, and Puck Diagnosis (Bean Book Pro)
Use widgets, Siri, and Shortcuts to log and look up beans
Store and manage all of your coffee data locally on your device

Some AI-powered features require Bean Book Pro, available as an auto-renewable subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase, billed through your Apple Account:

Billing: Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Prices may vary by region and are shown in the App before you buy.
Auto-renewal: Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel anytime in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.
Free trial: The annual plan's 7-day free trial converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Unused trial time is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
Free previews: Free users receive a limited number of previews of each Pro AI feature. Preview counts sync across your devices via iCloud.
Restore: Use "Restore Purchases" in the App to re-activate Pro on a new or reset device.
Refunds: Purchases are processed by Apple; refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Changes: We may change Pro pricing or what's included for new purchases; changes to an active subscription's price follow Apple's notice and consent process.
04AI Features Disclaimer
Bean Book's AI features (including dial-in suggestions, bag-label extraction, and puck diagnosis) are generated on-device by machine-learning models and are provided for informational purposes only.
AI output may be incomplete or incorrect — review scanned bean details before saving, and use your own judgment when adjusting your grinder or espresso machine
We make no guarantee that AI suggestions will improve your coffee or are suitable for your equipment
You are responsible for the safe operation of your own brewing equipment
AI features require a device that supports Apple Intelligence; availability may vary by device, region, and iOS version
05User Responsibilities
Content ownership
Your data: All bean data, tasting notes, ratings, recipes, and photos you add to the App are your property
Photo rights: Only add photos that you own or have permission to use; do not add copyrighted images without authorization
Accuracy: Information you record about beans and roasters is your own; we don't verify it
Prohibited uses
You agree not to use the App to:
Store or display illegal, harmful, or infringing content
Attempt to reverse engineer, modify, or redistribute the App
Circumvent purchase entitlements or preview limits
Use the App for any unlawful purpose
06Data and Privacy
All journal data is stored locally on your device; we do not collect, store, or access it
AI analysis runs on your device — photos and shot data are never uploaded
Small preference counters sync through your personal iCloud account
Google Custom Search API: powers roaster search; your search queries are sent to Google but not stored by us, and Google's terms apply
Roaster websites you browse in the App are governed by their own terms
07Intellectual Property
Our rights
The App — its design, code, and functionality — is our intellectual property
You may not copy, modify, or distribute the App without permission
Your rights
You retain ownership of all content you create in the App
You may export and share your data as you choose, and delete it at any time
08Disclaimers
The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind
We do not guarantee the App will be error-free or uninterrupted
We are not responsible for loss of data — use the export feature to keep your own backups
We are not responsible for content on third-party websites reached through the App
09Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the twelve months before the claim
Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under applicable consumer-protection law, including your rights against Apple as the merchant of record
10Termination
You may stop using the App at any time and delete it along with all local data; deleting the App does not automatically cancel an active subscription — cancel in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions
We may discontinue the App or its features with reasonable notice; lifetime purchases apply for the supported lifetime of the App
11Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
